Last year was a bumper year for kid’s films and 2015 promises to be just as good with new offerings from DreamWorks, and Pixar as well as a host of much anticipated adaptations from The Peanuts Movie to a SpongeBob SquarePants. Here are the top 10 children’s films for 2015.
The true story of a bunch of high-school kids who compete in an underwater robotics competition first reported in Wired magazine. The gang of four undocumented immigrants enter a robotics competition with a budget of only $800 and using only used car parts. However the youths win first place over MIT and a whole host of well-funded university teams proving that with smarts and perseverance you can achieve anything. Feel good geek flick of triumph in the face of adversity, it will inspire and entertain kids of seven and older.
The time is just right for the 3D animation of Charlie Schultz’s iconic comic strip ‘Peanuts’ to get the big screen make over. It’s in good hands too as the script was penned by Shultz’s son Craig and grandson Bryan. Craig Schultz maintained creative control over the entire project to ensure that the film fits into his father’s legacy and ensure that the Peanuts-loving public get what they’re looking for and not a rebranding of America’s favourite comic strip. Special attention has been paid to transfer the original strip’s ‘hand-drawn’ warmth to the state of the art CGI.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, February 6 2015
The sequel to the now classic 2004 the ‘ SpongeBob SquarePants Movie’ everyone’s favourite phylum Porifera is back. Featuring the regular cast form the television series along with some guest starring roles for Antonio Banderas and Slash, SpongeBob and Patrick are forced to go to the surface in order to save their underwater world. The film will feature live action sequences as well as the usual animation. The film is written and directed by the series’ original creator Paul Tibbit, so fans of SpongeBob have nothing to fear, it’s going to be as awesome as ever.
The spin-off from the ‘Despicable Me’ films ‘Minions’ is proof that people can’t get enough of the little yellow guys. The plot explains where the Minions come from and what their purpose is; to serve histories greatest villains. However due to their innate clumsiness they’ve left themselves with nobody to serve, so the flee to Antarctica. Enter Scarlet Overkill, voiced by Sandra Bullock, who is on a quest to become the world’s first female super-villain, who could use an army of yellow minions in her quest for world domination.
