NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A day after local law enforcement said reports of a possible threat at Charleston area theaters was unfounded, Joint Base Charleston officials say a man was arrested in Texas for making threats against Charleston area theaters.
According to a release on Joint Base Charleston's Facebook page, an unidentified man whose last known residence was in Charleston was arrested by Dallas, Texas, police.
Local officials were working together to find the man who had made threats to the public through Facebook, the release reads.
On Friday, Charleston County deputies said they found no credible information connected to rumors on social media of a threat to movie theaters in the Charleston area.
Charleston County deputies say they were made aware of the threat circulating Facebook on Thursday that discourages people from going to movie theaters in the Lowcountry this weekend.
"We don't have any credible information that would suggest that anything is planned or will occur, " a release from the sheriff's office stated.
However, deputies along with North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Charleston police officials as well as State Law Enforcement Division and the FBI are working together to assess any possible threats.
